Diamondback Bicycles was founded as a BMX brand in 1977 by Western States Imports in Newbury Park, California, which sold bikes under the Centurion (bicycle) brand. Since 1979, many riders have successfully competed under the sponsorship of Diamondback, which began with BMX and expanded to mountain bikes with the creation of Diamondback Racing (DBR) in 1993. In 1999, Diamondback Bicycles was purchased by the Derby Cycle Corporation, which also owned the Raleigh Bicycle Company, and merged Raleigh and Diamondback together. In 2001, Derby Cycle Corporation sold Raleigh and Diamondback, and currently both brands continue to share the same owners, Accell North America. Diamondback is a partner with several advocacy groups which includes the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, the Cascade Bicycle Club, Bikes Belong, and the International Mountain Bike Association.
One of the innovations pioneered by Diamondback is the Knuckle Box suspension, which is found on its Sortie, Mission, and Scapegoat full suspension mountain bikes. Currently Diamondback manufactures road, mountain, trail, downhill, cyclocross, gravel and urban bicycles. Some of their best road bikes are the Podium Equipes, the same bicycles are ridden by Rally Cycling, a USA National team. They have won a multitude of titles and achieved what others have not. With riders such as Rob Britton, Brad Huff, and Evan Huffman securing stages in Tour of California on the Podium Equipe.
Diamondback also shine in the mountain bikes area. With all mountain models like the Release 3, with enough travel to make any rock terrain a walk in the park, and the Catch 2 is at the leading edge of current trail bikes, with Diamondback’s new Level Link suspension and 27.5 Plus wheels. The Overdrive Carbon Comp is a classic hardtail in the tradition of cross-country trail bikes it’s made for riders who relish all-around speed, light and fast, it is perfect for cross country or an everyday ride. Diamondback also went to venture on to fat bikes, with a bicycle such as El Oso, made to crush sand and snow, or just a spin at on your everyday trail to work.
Diamondback bicycles offer an even wider array of bicycles, made for the commuter, everyday rider and the competitive cyclist. They also offer an array of economic options both for adults and kids, and for the urban commuter, Diamondback offers plenty of options powered by you or by an electric motor to ease and speed up your errands.
